The project covered the supply of consultancy services to the District Development Fund (DDF) Water Division for supervision, management and training for the installation, operation and maintenance of some 1,500 boreholes with hand-pumps.
The main focus was laid on the sustainability of the project by involving and training the local communities in the planning and sourcing of water points as well as in the operation and maintenance of the water pumps.
The task of the consultant included providing a network of protected and reliable water points within the districts of the three provinces as well as promoting community participation in the planning, implementation, operation and maintenance of the project.
The project was implemented by a water engineer and rural development specialist.
